On Saturday, April 5, 2025, in the packed Prefecture of Alexandroupolis, the Phaethon Conservatory of Alexandroupolis successfully organized the 7th Religious Music Concert, under the auspices of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace – Regional Unit of Evros, in view of the Easter season.
In a climate of devotion, in the particularly aesthetic and architecturally beautiful space of the Prefecture of Alexandroupolis, the Byzantine Choir of the Phaethon Conservatory performed Hymns of Holy and Great Week, under the direction of the musicologist and professor of Byzantine music, Mr. Angelos Bentis.
Mr. Bentis, at the end of the event, warmly thanked the Holy Metropolis of Alexandroupolis and the Regional Unit of Evros for their excellent cooperation and contribution to the realization of the concert, as well as His Eminence Archimandrite Fr. Constantios Lykidis, for the presentation and the prologue of the Hymns.
The event was honored with their presence by the General Hierarchical Commissioner of the Holy Metropolis of Alexandroupolis, Fr. Konstantinos Kostakis, the President of the Municipal Council of Alexandroupolis, Mr. Christos Gougoulakis and the Professor Emeritus of the Medical School of the University of Thessaloniki, Mr. Ploumis Pasadakis.

On Sunday, December 22, 2024, in the packed Prefecture of Alexandroupolis, the Phaethon Conservatory of Alexandroupolis successfully organized the Byzantine Music Concert entitled “Bethlehem is preparing…”, under the auspices of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace – Regional Unit of Evros, in view of the Christmas holiday.
In the particularly aesthetic and architecturally beautiful space of the Prefecture of Alexandroupolis, the Byzantine Dance of the Phaethon Conservatory performed Christmas Hymns, under the direction of the musicologist and professor of Byzantine music, Mr. Angelos Bentis.
The event was prefaced by His Eminence Metropolitan of Alexandroupolis, Mr. Anthimos, who underlined the importance of the event, in the context of promoting and highlighting Byzantine church music in the Holy Metropolis of Alexandroupolis and personally congratulated the choirmaster, Mr. Angelos Bentis, for the excellent performance of the Hymns.
The event was honored with their presence by His Eminence Metropolitan of Alexandroupolis, Mr. Anthimos, the Member of Parliament of Evros Prefecture and honorary chief of the Hellenic Police Mr. Anastasios Dimoschakis, the Deputy Governor of Evros Mr. Evangelos Poulilios, the President of the Municipal Council of Alexandroupolis Mr. Christos Gougoulakis, the Director of Secondary Education of Evros Prefecture Mrs. Eleni Plakoti, the academics: the professor of the Department of Agriculture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Mr. Athanasios Mavromatis, the associate professor of the Department of Music Studies of the University of Ioannina Mr. Athanasios Trikoupis, the emeritus professors of the Medical School of the University of Thessaloniki, Mr. Elias Thodis and Mr. Ploumis Pasadakis, the emeritus professor of Psychology of the University of Dortmund Mr. Homer Mavridis and the president of the Association of Cultural Evros Institutions Mr. Dimitrios Kelemidis.
At the end of the event, the official guests awarded the graduation titles of last year’s Phaethon Conservatory, including a traditional clarinet degree to Nikolaos Efraimidis and a lute degree to Ioannis Dagalis, which are the first to be awarded in the entire Thrace.

On Saturday, April 20, 2024, the Phaethon Conservatory held its 6th Religious Music Concert entitled: “The Lord Comes, Towards His Voluntary Passion”, at the Prefecture of Alexandroupolis, under the auspices of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace – Regional Unit of Evros. The Byzantine Choir of the Phaethon Conservatory sang Hymns of Holy and Great Week at the concert, under the direction of the musicologist-professor of Byzantine music, Mr. Angelos Bentis. The event was prefaced by His Eminence Metropolitan of Alexandroupolis, Mr. Anthimos.
Holy and Great Week constitutes – in combination with the great feast of Easter – the most important period of Orthodox worship, during which our Church celebrates the fulfillment of the divine economy concerning man and participates secretly in the saving passion of Christ, who abolished death and opened the way to the heavenly Kingdom of God.
